Chaurasi Kutia (Beatles Ashram)
Chaurasi Kutia, popularly known as the Beatles Ashram, is a historic spiritual retreat located in the forested area of Rishikesh, inside the buffer zone of Rajaji Tiger Reserve.
Originally established by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi in the 1960s, the ashram gained global fame in 1968 when the legendary band The Beatles stayed here to learn Transcendental Meditation.
🧘 Why is it called “Chaurasi Kutia”?
The name translates to “84 huts”, referring to the unique dome-shaped meditation caves built for spiritual practice. These eco-friendly stone structures were designed to provide isolation and deep meditation experiences.
🎸 Beatles Connection & Global Fame
In 1968, members of The Beatles — including John Lennon and Paul McCartney — spent time here composing music and practicing meditation.
